For a guide to assemble your parts, we recommend this unique step-by-step tutorial by YouTube member MrTrek64.  Note that it contains additional features beyond our authentically-oriented scope, such as adding electronics and the use of modern adhesives over vintage-style.  Nonetheless, you will no doubt find it highly informative and delightfully entertaining.  Disclaimer - the gentleman makes it a point to thank us several time for offering information to help his build.  We extend the appreciation back.

When looking to buy the raw brass and aluminum materials referenced in the above sections, you can't do better than finding a well-stocked K&S "Hardware Metal Center,"  typically located at your local hobby store or (as shown below) at ACE Hardware.  This one even had the odd-sized 7/32" dia. brass tube needed for the hero wind-up mechanism:
