History

The only thing known for sure about this mystery proto-comm, beyond the fact that it did exist (as per a line item in Wah Chang's original invoice dated June 2, 1966), was that it was given away on-set to a certain child actor who appeared early in the show.  Now you'd think it strange for the production to discard a new, potentially useful prop just as filming started, so our strong hunch is that the action somehow allowed the studio to legally not have to pay the $225.00 for it.  That actor unfortunately lost track of the item long ago, so its current fate is a complete unknown.

We did, however, hear a story second-hand (so it won't be repeated here) regarding its disappearance that lends hope that the prop still exists.  And should the person who (may) have it contact us, we could share with him or her some additional information about the possession that may be of considerable interest.  And do be mindful that until our world-renown experts have studied the piece, determined it to be genuine and included photos of it on this website, neither the Trek-loving world nor the collector's market will accept it as real.
